Every time we have sex we make decisions about how we avoid getting or passing on HIV. Protecting ourselves and our partners from HIV transmission involves each of us thinking about the role that we play in any decision about using condoms.
Most gay men still choose to use condoms most of the time when having casual sex. But, for many of us, there are moments when we decide to take a risk and not use condoms.

When used properly, condoms and water-based lubricant are effective
for preventing the transmission of HIV. However, there are other STIs
that can be caught or passed on through oral sex and other sexual contact
that are not necessarily prevented by the use of condoms and water-based
